Dan Kraft

Dan Kraft is a lawyer, arbitrator and mediator trained in Brazil, the UK and Canada, member of the Brazil and Québec Bar Associations.

After heading legal departments of banks and actively participating in privatization initiatives in Brazil, Dan became a resident lawyer at the prestigious lawfirm KING & WOOD MALLESONS, SJ BERWIN in London, prior to moving back to Brazil and setting up his own practice in Belo Horizonte, which he headed for over 20 years. Between 2012 and 2014, he worked in Dentons Latin American and mining practice out of Montreal, where he resides since 2009.

Dan's experienced in national and international businesses, including regulated sectors such as finance, public procurement, gambling, energy and telecom. His multicultural and multisector perspective encompasses knowledge and experience applied to alternative methods in solving complex disputes. He's knowledgeable and a researcher on enterprise strategy, assisting groups in their contract, corporate and financial needs both for market expansion and in conflicts, having integrated Boards of Directors. He's experienced in corporate diplomacy, mainly at the international level.

Dan has a Civil Law degree and a Masters in International Trade Law from the traditional Law Faculty of UFMG. He also has an LLM in International Banking and Finance Law from Queen Mary University of London and is concluding his PhD in Comparative Banking Law at the University of Montreal, Canada.

Starting in 1996, he became a lecturer at Law Faculties and Business Schools such as Fumec, PUC, UFU, Gama Filho, Milton Campos, FGV, IBMEC, Dom Cabral and HEC-Montreal. Since 2014, he's a regular lecturer for Comparative Business Law, International Economic Relations and Legal Aspects of International Finance at the University of Montreal. He's a researcher at CDACI – Center of Business Law and International Trade, regularly publishing in his field.

Fully fluent in Portuguese, English and French, Dan has reasonable fluency in Spanish, Italian and German.

Dan regularly engages in volunteer initiatives in his community. He's also the Vice-President for Academic Affairs of the Law Graduation Association of the University of Montreal.
