Glaucio Freire

Glaucio Freire (or Glaucio R. de Luna Freire) was ahead of the legal department of Electricité de France in Brazil for more than fourteen (14) years, being responsible for corporate issues, contracts, new business in the power energy sector, also minding the legal aspects related to the other companies of the group, EDF NORTE FLUMINENSE SA, UTE PARACAMBI LTDA, EDF do BRASIL LTDA and EDF CONSULTORIA LTDA.

 Glaucio supported the coordination of thermoelectric, hydroelectric, nuclear and renewable new projects in the country, with emphasis on environmental licensing, infrastructure, formation of consortiums and SPVs and participation in public auctions - with special emphasis on ANEEL's energy contracting auctions - M&A, financing and companies’ equity adjustment. He was a member of the Board Committee of the Maracanã Solar Project developed by EDF and LIGHT ESCO and Coordinated the Legal Committee of the Consortium of Tapajós Project, an association of ELETROBRAS, ELETRONORTE, EDF SA, GDF SUEZ (current ENGIE), ENDESA (currently Enel Brasil), NEOENERGIA, COPEL, CEMIG and CONSTRUTORA CAMARGO CORRÊA. He acted on behalf of EDF in the biennium 2014-2016 as a member of the State Council of Water Resources, aka CERHI.

Additionally, for seven (7) years he was part of the law firms Wald & Associados Advogados in the Corporate Law practice, Contractual and Business Advisory, and Rodrigues Vasconcellos Advogados & Consultores Cíveis, where he acted as civil litigator, in civil liability, contracts, consumer law, credit enforcement and inheritance law. He also served as legal counsel for Star One S.A.

In 1999 he concluded a postgraduate course in Business Law by the Brazilian School of Public Administration, aka E.B.A.P., of Getúlio Vargas Foundation with emphasis on Marketing, Consumer and Quality.

Participated as a member of the ICC's Environment and Energy Committee - International Chamber of Commerce - Brazil, having partook in the discussions of COP 19 and COP 20 - Conference of the Parties to the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change, and also taken the courses Rules of Arbitration - Expertise Proceedings and Negotiation Skills at the Académie des Métiers in Paris.

At New York University, he attended the School of Professional Studies - Certificate in Ethics and Corporate Governance, where, since 2013, he has been part in colloquiums at the School of Law and the Center for Global Affairs.

He also attended the Mediation Program for Brazilian Lawyers at JAMS - Judicial Arbitration and Mediation Services, and has shadowed several mediation sessions at JAMS New York office.

Glaucio Freire was nominated for the General Counsel Award 2015 by the International Law Office and, in 2014, was listed by Editorial Publishing as one of the most admired Legal Executives in Brazil.
